So dil Dhadakne Do is a good movie (although, I still like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara better, which you can watch end number of times and enjoy it EVERY TIME). The plot and the characters were well sketched, which is to be expected from Zoya Akhtar, whose characters are never two dimensional.

One character in particular stood out the most. Ayesha, played by Priyanka Chopra, is pretty amazing. She is strong, independent, empowered, vulnerable, emotional and so very real.

Here are all the reasons why Ayesha wins Dil Dhadakne Do.

1) She has struggled hard and achieved what she wanted on her own.

Ayesha sold her own jewellery to start a business she was passionate about and made it a success all on her own.

2) Her wardrobe is ‘Ah-mayzing’.

Ayesha’s wardrobe choices are nothing less than awesome. She is always perfectly dressed, whether it’s her parent’s anniversary dinner or casually hanging out on the deck.

3) She didn’t succumb to societal conformations regarding her marriage.

She knew that she doesn’t have to stay in a marriage, in which neither of them were happy, just because society demands it. ‘Shadi koi race to nahi hai jo finish line take pohochna hai‘.

4) Who she ended up with wasn’t the point.

The point of her character was not who she was with romantically or not. All she wanted was the acceptance that just because she was a girl she is not anything less than her brother or any other guy for that matter. She is strong, self sufficient and Farhan Akhtar was lucky to end up with her.

5) She can hold her own in front of a professional dancer/ performer/ weird 20s woman.

6) She seems to be the only sensible one in the family.

While her entire family is being passive aggressive and manipulating each other with childish games and what not, she seems to be the only person who is hundred percent done with everything and calls them on their games overtime.

7) Her relationship with her brother was the cutest.

Whether it’s about talking about love, their lives or fighting over dessert, Aysha and Kabir embodied the relationship all of us share with our siblings. It is not always tearful his and promises of servitude (Read: Sooraj Barjatya) or scheming and fighting.
